BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Each year members of the Lodi Fire Department have an opportunity to nominate one of their members to be the Firefighter of the Year. All of the nominations submitted are given to a selection committee which consists of a Captain, an Engineer, and a Firefighter, overseen by a Chief Officer. The nomination committee reviews the nominations and evaluates them to ensure the recommendations meet the criteria for the Firefighter of the Year policy. After each nomination is vetted, all members of the Fire Department utilize a secret ballot to pick the award winner.
This year Captain Ryan Wentz has been selected by his peers as the 2023 Firefighter of the Year. Captain Wentz has been an integral part of assisting the Lodi Fire Department’s transition toward providing Advanced Life Support Services and currently is completing his Paramedic accreditation. He is eager to train with our newest recruits and is always working on a fire department related project. Captain Wentz is well deserving of this recognition.
