BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The City received a request for communication from the League of California Cities regarding Assembly Bill 2557 (Ortega): Contracts for Special Services and Temporary Help: Performance Reports. The bill was referred to the suspense file by the Appropriations Committee on August 5, 2024 for further impacts on its fiscal impacts to the state.
AB 2557 would place further burdens on local governments in their efforts to be efficient with limited tax payer resources. Additional costs and administrative burden would be required for both private contractors and local governments, increasing the cost and likely reducing the number of contractors willing to work with governments.
The attached letter signed by the Mayor was sent to Assemblymember Ortega on August 8, 2024. Assembly Bill 2557 is attached for reference.
