BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Pink Patch Project was launched by the Irwindale Police Department in October 2015. The idea emerged in 2013, after the Irwindale Police Chief discovered that several family members of department staff had lost their battles with breast cancer.
The Irwindale Police Officers Association created pink patches and t-shirts, and raised more than $20,000 for the City of Hope nonprofit by selling these items at Coffee with a Cop and National Night Out events. The pink patches were also displayed on uniforms for the entire month of October. The Pink Patch Project became a nationwide campaign as it was shared and promoted through social media and traditional media channels. The City of Lodi Police Department is the 45th California law enforcement agency to participate in the Pink Patch Project. All agencies donate all proceeds to local non-profits supporting cancer awareness and survival.
Many of the Lodi Police Department staff have been affected by breast cancer, both personally fighting the disease or as a consequence of a family member or loved one. For those suffering physically and emotionally within the department and in the Lodi community, we support you. Wearing the pink patch is just a small gesture the Lodi Police Department can make to show our support. The Police Officers Association of Lodi (POAL) and Lodi Police Mid-Management Organization (MAMA) will sponsor the sales of Pink Patch to show support and raise money for the American Cancer Society - Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of San Joaquin Valley. Pink Patches can be purchased in the LPD Lobby for $10 each during normal business hours.
