BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The purchase of the new Truck 2051 was adopted by Resolution in 2022. It has been part of a two-year build process. A standard part of the build is to purchase extrication equipment that is mounted to the truck. City Council approved $315,000 for the outfitting of the new truck as part of the Fiscal Year 2024 Budget. It was staff's understanding at that time that the equipment could simply be purchased as a result of the Council action.

In anticipation of this purchase, a team of apparatus committee members and line personnel participated in a side-by-side comparison of Holmatro, Hurst and Amkus battery-operated extrication equipment. The process consisted of utilizing all tools of the three brands and cutting several cars in the same manner for each brand of equipment. Staff observed the Holmatro equipment performed most efficiently. The apparatus committee recommends moving forward with the purchase of the Holmatro equipment. The equipment was ordered from Western Extrication Specialists as part of the overall build and is due to be delivered in two weeks. The cost of this equipment is $67,678.08.
