BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The nation's first Arbor Day was observed in Nebraska on April 10, 1872, after Julius Sterling Morton proposed a tree-planting holiday at a meeting of the Nebraska Board of Agriculture. It was estimated that more than 1 million trees were planted in Nebraska during that first Arbor Day. Arbor Day has now spread beyond the United States and is observed in many countries around the world.

Lodi has been designated as a Tree City USA for 20 consecutive years. This designation provides the City preference over other communities for tree or forestry program grant money and confirms that our city cares for its trees. The celebration of Arbor Day provides an opportunity to learn about trees and take positive action to make our schools, our city and the world we live in a better place.

This year's Arbor Day event will be on Saturday, April 5, 2025, starting at 9:00 a.m., at Lodi Lake's south side,1101 W. Turner Road. This year's celebration is being facilitated by City of Lodi staff and Tree Lodi, with help from partners including Lodi Arts Commission, Lodi Unified School District, West Coast Arborists, A&W, Hollywood Caf?, Cal Fire, Enchanted Rock, SJC Master Gardeners, and RJQ Landscape & Design.

This year marks an important milestone for Tree Lodi as they celebrate their 20th anniversary. The City appreciates their devotion and would not be able to care for Lodi's healthy urban forest without their support.
