Adopt a resolution appointing Councilmember Nakanishi as Mayor for the Remainder of Mayor Bregman’s 2025 Term.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Dr. Alan Nakanishi was elected to the Lodi City Council on December 1, 1998, and first served as Mayor for the City in 2001. Dr. Nakanishi left the City Council to serve as an Assemblymember on the California State Assembly from 2002 to 2008, representing the 10th Assembly district.
Council Member Nakanishi returned to the Lodi City Council in 2010, serving as the Lodi representative on the Delta Protection Commission, Eastern San Joaquin Groundwater Joint Powers Authority, and Northeastern San Joaquin County Groundwater Banking Authority. Council Member Nakanishi was also voted, by the members of the Lodi City Council, to serve as Mayor in 2013, 2018 and 2021.
Mayor Bregman wishes to honor Council Member Nakanishi’s many years of service to Lodi and nominate Council Member Nakanishi to serve as Mayor for the remainder of the 2025 Mayoral term until December 3, 2025, at which time, the City Council will conduct its annual reorganization to select the 2026 Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore.
In appointing Council Member Nakanishi as Mayor for the remainder of the 2025 Mayoral term, Council Member Nakanishi will become one of the longest serving Mayors of the City of Lodi.
Therefore, Mayor Bregman would like to nominate Council Member Nakanishi as Mayor for the remainder of his 2025 Mayoral term, and he asks that his colleagues on the Council vote to support this recognition.
