BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Human Trafficking is the fastest-growing and second-largest criminal industry in the world. An estimated 27 million people worldwide have been exploited by traffickers, compelling them to perform various labor services or engage in commercial sex. Traffickers prey on people of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities.

Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Month seeks to raise public awareness about the realities of human trafficking and to educate communities on how to recognize, prevent, and combat this exploitation. This universal crime impacts individuals across all demographics, communities, and regions and constitutes a significant violation of human rights.

The Lodi Police Department collaborates with the San Joaquin County Anti-Sex and Labor Trafficking Task Force, comprised of members from the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office, District Attorney's Office, and Probation Department, to address human trafficking and bring perpetrators to justice. The task force is dedicated to building strong, supportive communities that prioritize the safety and well-being of all individuals.

The San Joaquin County Justice Center serves as a comprehensive resource for survivors to foster a victim-centered approach to justice and restoration. Community members, leaders, educators, service providers, law enforcement officers, healthcare workers, and others are encouraged to educate themselves about human trafficking, recognize its signs, understand the challenges that survivors face, and contribute to a network of those affected.
