BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Public Power Week is an annual nationwide celebration led by the American Public Power Association (APPA). APPA represents the community-owned, non-profit utilities that provide safe, reliable, and low-cost electricity to millions of Americans each day.
Every year in October, from small towns to large cities, community-owned public power utilities collectively celebrate Public Power Week. This event brings attention to the value of publicly owned utilities and the benefits they bring to their city. This celebration also allows Lodi Electric Utility (LEU) and others to educate the public, including young, future customers.
The 2026 theme for Public Power Week is “Your Community. Your Utility. Your Power.” LEU, serving the City of Lodi since 1910, incorporates this theme into work each and every day. LEU strives to remain directly connected and accountable to customers and businesses in order to provide safe, reliable, affordable electric service.
This year marks LEU’s 30th annual educational open house which allows LEU employees to share their knowledge with children in the community through a variety of safety demonstrations, informational stations, and hands-on activities. These will cover topics varying from how electricity is generated, stored, and delivered to electrical safety. Because Lodi Unified School District’s fall break coincides with this year’s Public Power Week as designated by APPA, LEU celebrates one week later, hosting schools on Thursday, October 15, 2026. With the generous help and donations from local businesses, LEU is able to create a very unique, memorable experience for participants.
Electric Utility Administrative Assistant Paige Valim will accept the proclamation on behalf of LEU.
