BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

On January 30, 2024, Lodi Police Officers responded to the area of Cherokee Lane and Locust Street on a report of a wanted felon being in the area. The suspect fled on foot and eventually climbed atop a residential roof, where he was surrounded by LPD officers.

After approximately 4 hours of negotiations with CINT personnel and SJC Mental Health, a plan was devised to deploy LPD personnel onto the roof in an effort to safely take the suspect into custody. With the assistance of Lodi EUD and their boom truck; and Lodi Fire and their ladder truck, 3 officers and a police K-9 were simultaneously deployed onto the rooftop. The suspect jumped from the rooftop onto LFD’s ladder truck, in an attempt to escape. He was struck with a less-lethal bean-bag round before he could breach the perimeter. This collaborative effort resulted in the safe capture of the suspect and minimized exposure for injuries to everyone involved.

Mayor Craig, on behalf of the Lodi City Council, will present a certificate of recognition thanking the Police Department for their ingenuity and resourcefulness in safely apprehending the suspect. She will also present certificates of recognition to the Fire Department and Electric Utility Department for their swift response in coming to the aid of the Police Department and their steadfast partnership to ensure the City’s public safety is the first priority.
