body
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Painted Pianos program is a recurring public art initiative that enhances community spaces, supports local artists, and promotes cultural engagement throughout the City. The program has been well received and aligns with the goals of the City’s Arts in Public Places (AiPP) program by activating public areas through accessible and interactive art.
Historically, the program has been funded on a case-by-case basis through AiPP allocations. To improve consistency, transparency, and long-term sustainability, the Lodi Arts Commission has identified the need to formalize the program through a dedicated Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
At its February 11, 2026 meeting, the Lodi Arts Commission (“Commission”) unanimously approved recommending the establishment of a Painted Pianos CIP in the amount of $6,000 annually, funded through AiPP. The Commission also supported advancing the funding timeline to Fiscal Year 2025/26 to implement the program immediately and to ensure continuity moving forward.
Establishing this CIP will provide a consistent funding mechanism for the program, allowing staff to plan future installations, support artists, and maintain the quality and visibility of the project. This action formalizes an already successful program within the City’s capital planning framework while remaining aligned with prior Commission direction and Council-approved AiPP processes.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funding in the amount of $6,000 annually will be appropriated from existing Arts in Public Places (AiPP) funds. There is no impact to the General Fund.
FUNDING AVAILABLE:
Funding is available within the Arts in Public Places (AiPP) program budget and will be allocated annually to the Painted Pianos CIP.
