body

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Community Development Department (“CDD”) consists of several divisions, including Building, Planning, Neighborhood Services, and Community Improvement. Staffing within the Building Division includes three (3) Building Inspector II positions and one (1) Senior Building Inspector position, all reporting to the Chief Building Official. Currently, one (1) Building Inspector II position and the Senior Building Inspector position are filled by full-time employees, while the department is utilizing outside Building contract services to fill the remaining two (2) Building Inspector II positions.

In a continued effort to provide superior customer service to City of Lodi residents and reduce costs, CDD continuously seeks to hire full-time employees or use existing employees in essential positions to prevent the continued reliance and expense of contract services. The current Senior Building Inspector is performing and coordinating plan reviews in a full-time capacity in accordance with the job description, which is an essential function for the department. Additionally, the department has recently hired a full-time Building Inspector II and is actively seeking to fill one of the two remaining vacant positions. The additional Senior Building Inspector position that is being requested would be responsible for managing field operations including customer service, the inspection process, and providing support and training to promote growth and development for the two (2) Building Inspector II positions.

Upon approval by Council, the City will conduct an open recruitment to fill the Senior Building Inspector position, and the Community Development Department’s salary savings will cover the difference in cost from one Building Inspector II position to a Senior Building Inspector position.
