Accept Improvements Under Contract for Century DeBenedetti Storm Drain Outfall.

body

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

As previously discussed with the City Council, there are a number of locations around town that were heavily impacted by the recent, historic rainfall events. Over the coming years, staff plans to complete a variety of storm-related projects intended to reduce the impacts of future major storms. One of the areas most impacted is the area immediately adjacent to DeBenedetti Park (G-Basin), located at the southeast corner of Century Boulevard and Lower Sacramento Road.

This project constructed an additional storm drain outfall line into DeBenedetti Park from Century Boulevard at the northeast corner of the existing basin (see attached Exhibit A). This additional outfall will reduce the pressure on the main lines coming into the DeBenedetti Park basin, which will reduce the likelihood of street flooding for all of the developments in its drainage area. Photos of the new outfall are attached as Exhibit B.

Council approved the plans, specification, advertisement, and the award authority on June 21, 2023. Bids were received on July 19, 2023, with R. Sutton Enterprises being the lowest bidder (see breakdown below). The contractor started work on October 16, 2023, and completed the work on November 27, 2023. The contract was completed in substantial conformance with the specifications approved by City Council. The final contract price was $182,245.00, which is $5,149.00 less than the original contract price due to a credit given for the grass repair / installation. That work will be done in the spring (by Parks Department staff) for a better chance of successful planting.
