BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The American Planning Association (APA) has designated October as National Community Planning Month to recognize the vital contributions of planning professionals who design and implement strategies to improve local neighborhoods, ensure equitable growth, optimize land use, and work to create sustainable communities and enhance the well-being of all people living in their community.

The APA establishes National Community Planning Month each October to highlight how structural planning shapes the places where we live, work, and play. The initiative emphasizes that communities do not happen by chance; they are the result of deliberate, long-term collaboration between residents, elected officials, and professional planners.

The celebration of National Community Planning Month gives us an opportunity to publicly recognize the dedication of the City of Lodi’s Planning staff, Planning Commissioners, and community advocates who contribute to our city's long-term success.

In recognition of National Community Planning Month, the Mayor and Councilmembers acknowledge the professionalism, expertise, and dedication of the City's Planning staff, whose efforts often occur behind the scenes but have a lasting impact on the quality of life of Lodi residents, businesses, and visitors.
