BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Lodi City Council currently meets, and has historically met, for two types of meetings: regular meetings scheduled on the first and third Wednesday of each month (Lodi Municipal Code ?2.04.010), and informal informational meetings, commonly known as Shirtsleeve Meetings, on Tuesday mornings at 7:00 a.m. (Lodi Municipal Code ?2.04.020). The purpose of the Shirtsleeve meetings is to allow for in-depth discussion of a specific topic to educate Council and the public on City efforts, project progress, or a topic that may come before Council for consideration at a later date.
At the April 3, 2024 City Council regular meeting, at the request of members of the City Council, staff presented alternatives to Shirtsleeve meetings. Options included would provide for the same in-depth discussions without the pressure of a lengthy regular meeting, as well as reserved time slots on Council's and staff's schedules to hold special meetings when more immediate action of the Council is necessary. Council voted to continue holding such informational meetings as special meetings, rather than the regularly scheduled Shirtsleeve meetings. Special meetings can be held at any time, with a requirement of at least a twenty-four notice to Council, staff, and the public. This flexibility will allow City staff to hold meetings that are more suited to schedules of the public and the City Council.
