RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt a Resolution of the Lodi City Council appointing Taryn Jones to the position of City Attorney and approving the related employment agreement effective September 21, 2026.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Effective April 11, 2026, the City Attorney position became vacant. The City engaged the services of an executive recruitment firm to conduct the recruitment to fill this position. The City Council and various interview panels participated in the candidate selection process and selected Taryn Jones as the preferred candidate. The City Council then directed the recruitment firm to negotiate the terms of the proposed appointment and employment agreement.
The recruitment firm and Taryn Jones subsequently reached agreement on the terms of the employment agreement, which are reflected in the attached City Attorney Employment Agreement. Among other provisions, the agreement provides that Taryn Jones will be appointed City Attorney effective September 21, 2026, for an initial three-year term, with a starting base salary of $272,000.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The annual base salary is $272,000.
FUNDING AVAILABLE:
Funding is in the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget.
