RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Consider Adopting a Resolution Extending the Term of Economic Development Ad-Hoc Committee for an Additional Year.

 body

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The City Council established the Economic Development Ad Hoc Committee on February 7, 2024, by Resolution No. 2024-20, with the responsibility of providing advice and recommendations to the City Council on the following objectives:

a)                     Scope and Implementation of the Economic Development Strategic Plan

b)                     Economic Development Components of the Downtown Specific Plan

c)                     Necessity of and makeup of potential future for permanent Economic Development related committee

The Committee’s original term was set to end on the earlier of February 7, 2026, or upon City Council’s determination that the Committee fulfilled its objectives. Since the February 7, 2026 date has passed and the objectives are still in progress, the Committee Members have requested that Council extend their term by an additional year.

This extension will allow time for the implementation of the Economic Development Strategic Plan and the adoption of the Downtown Specific Plan. It will also give the Committee an opportunity to make a recommendation on the necessity of a future Economic Development Committee. The additional one-year term will take effect once City Council approves the resolution and will continue until February 18, 2027.
