BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Since 1985, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has celebrated July as Park and Recreation Month to recognize the essential services provided by park and recreation professionals nationwide. The annual celebration highlights the important role parks and recreation play in building healthy, vibrant, and resilient communities.
The 2026 theme, "The Power Of...," celebrates the many ways parks and recreation positively impacts communities through connection, play, nature, belonging, well-being, and community. The campaign also recognizes the more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals, along with countless part-time staff, seasonal employees, volunteers, and community partners who help create meaningful experiences and welcoming public spaces across the country.
In the City of Lodi, parks and recreation services provide opportunities for residents and visitors of all ages to connect with nature, participate in recreational and cultural activities, improve physical and mental well-being, and strengthen community relationships. From neighborhood parks and trails to aquatic programs, youth sports, cultural arts, special events, and senior services, the City's Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department plays a vital role in enhancing quality of life throughout the community.
