BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
On July 19, 2023, the City Council approved a ten-year agreement with Axon Enterprise, Inc. for body-worn cameras, Taser devices, and associated subscription services, maintenance, and licensing. Axon has been a leading provider of Taser energy weapons and cloud-based evidence management systems for law enforcement agencies since 1993 and is the sole-source manufacturer of Tasers.

The original agreement provided officers with body-worn cameras and less-lethal equipment designed to enhance officer safety, improve transparency, and strengthen evidence collection. Body-worn cameras continue to play a critical role in documenting law enforcement interactions, supporting investigations, and promoting accountability within the community.

The proposed amendment expands the scope of services to include cameras in police interview rooms. This addition will further enhance transparency, improve evidence documentation, and support investigative processes.
