BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Community Development Department (CDD) identified the building and site located at 354 East Oak Street, former business location of Adore Pets, as a public threat posing safety hazards, risks for fire and/or impending collapse. Evidence cited included severe structural decay, sagging beams, and excess trash. Staff also found a severed tree limb resting on the roof with the potential to fall and cause public harm as the area is not fenced.
The Public Works Department was asked to assist in the building abatement and advertised an informal bid utilizing the California Uniform Public Construction Cost Accounting Act (CUPCCAA). The project included the following work: abating, demolishing and removing the main structure of approximately 1800 square feet, obtaining a Valley Air Board Permit (lead paint/asbestos removal), filling-in the 600 square foot basement, capping utilities, properly disposing of hazardous waste, saw cutting and removing approximately 320SF of concrete sidewalk and door landing, removing one 18" diameter tree, and installing approximately 125' of four (4) foot high chain link fence.
