RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt a Resolution awarding a contract for the Carnegie Forum Boiler Replacement to Mesa Energy Systems, Inc., of West Sacramento ($94,363), authorizing the City Manager to execute Change Orders in an amount not to exceed $15,000 and appropriating funds from the Facilities Office Remodel Project in the amount of $10,000 and Fire Station 4 Stucco Project in the amount of $36,183 for a total new appropriation amount of $46,183.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
In recent years, various components of the boiler (heating) system at Carnegie Forum have required increasingly frequent maintenance and replacement. The system was installed in 1988 and has exceeded its expected useful life. Due to its age, and the difficulty in locating replacement parts, staff recommends the purchase and installation of a new boiler. The new boiler will be more reliable and reduce costs through its more efficient design.
This project includes removing and disposing of the existing boiler and auxiliary components, installing a new, high-efficiency natural gas-fueled boiler and expansion tank, and performing various plumbing, mechanical and electrical modifications to accommodate the installations.
The City bid the project utilizing the informal bidding procedures, a tabulation of the bids received and the Engineer's estimate is below:
